- Nationwide, over 400,000 boys and girls participate. - It is the oldest and safest youth tackle football / cheer program in the nation. - Safety is the key element: There are strict rules regarding equipment, and players are grouped based on their age/height specifications. - Pop Warner is endorsed by the NFL. - The YMCA & Pop Warner share/teach similar philosophies: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Junior Peewee: 60-105 pounds**, ages 8-10 Junior Midget: 85-135 pounds**, ages 10-12 ** Please Check About older/lighter rule. - The YMCA in Traverse City is your governing body however; most issues shall be handled by your local association. - Your child must be with you at registration. - Your child must have a physical exam within 6 months of the first August practice. You must turn the completed health form into your local association before August. - A birth certificate and recent report card must be turned in at registration. - Age cutoff date is August 1st - Games begin the first Saturday after Labor Day each year. All games are on Saturday’s. - This is a travel league. Games are scheduled with geography in mind, but travel distances may very. - Please check with your individual association about program cost. - Coaches are volunteers, most of which have had previous football/cheer experience and coaching duties. - Pop Warner has a minimum play policy, however playing time may be subject to coaches discretion. - Parents are required to assist at home games. Duties include concessions, tickets sales, and cleanup. - Players are weighed in each week at game sites. |
